Her Only Possession

William Lee Hankey (1869-1952)

Drypoint, one of only fifty copies, made in 1916. Signed below in pencil, with the artist's monogram lower left. Also stamped monogram on paper by signature. William Lee Hankey observed at first hand the plight of refugees during the First World War. Many of his beautiful drypoints portray young mothers and their children. See Pick-a-Back for another mother and child by him. Our blog on Lee Hankey is here.
