Herbert Johnson Harvey (1884-1928)

Harvey was a portrait painter but began etching during the 1920s. His striking portraits in this medium are quite rare - only about thirty-five plates are thought to survive. Signed both within the plate and below, in pencil. It is likely that the artist's wife was the model for this beautiful drypoint.
